Originally built by the Portuguese, Kochi (Cochin) has a natural harbour with lagoons and canals and fishing hamlets. Koc hi (Cochin), the Queen of the Arabian Sea, is situated on the west coast of India in the beautiful state of Kerala. Kochi can be regarded as the commercial and industrial capital of Kerala. Kochi is the most important city in Kerala. It is the second most important city (after Mumbai) on the western coast of India

Today morning, half day tour of the satellite towns of Kochi (Cochin) and Emakulam comprises of visits to the Dutch Palace, the Jewish Synagogue - (whic h remains closed on Fridays) St. Francis Church and the Santa Cruz Basilica.
While driving along the coastline, at the Harbour's mouth, one can also view the unique and still - in - use "Chinese Fishing Nets" which were introduced by the Chinese traders in t he 14th Century. The tour ends in the Fort Kochi area where you can walk through the historical Dutch and Portuguese buildings. Some parts of this nearly 500 - year - old Fort are still amazingly well preserved
In the evening, visit to see Kath akali Dance Show Witness India's most spectacular Dance Drama based on stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata. The dancers are elaborately made up with paint and masks, accompanied with drummers and musicians.

This morning you travel approximately 4 hours by private vehicle to Thekkady, the main entrance to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
The name Thekkady, for those who have already visited this place, brings to mind images of elephants, unending chains of hills and s pice scented plantations. Moreover, the flora and fauna of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is absolutely thrilling. The wild life sancturary here is the natural habitat of a wide variety of animal species. The Periyar Lake is a paradise for the nature love rs. It gives you an opportunity to boserve the wild animals roaming in the jungle. The lake is also a birdwatcher’s delight. The greatest attraction of Periyar Lake, however, it he herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake. Moreover, the sanctuary Watch Tower situated in the forest interior gives you a panoramic view of the park
Enjoy an afternoon boat ride on Lake Periyar. Covering an area of 300 square miles Periyar is one of the
largest and most frequently visited wildlif
e reserves in India. It is part of the Project Tiger campaign and
animals inhabiting the area include elephant, deer, pig, tiger, leopard, bison, monkeys and malabar squirrel.
Whilst actually spotting an illusive tiger or leopard could prove difficult, the
mix of wooded hills and
valleys make it a wonderf
ul place to enjoy the greenery.
Return to your resort. Your local guide takes you to view spice plantations of cardamom, pepper and other local specialties.

This morning, proceed to Kumarakom, approximately 3 hour drive.
An old rubber plantation set around the Vembanad Lake has been sensitively developed into a bird
sanctuary. The Vembanad Lake with its majestic canals, streams and distributaries alo
ng its banks weaves
an intricate and beautiful web. This area is a winter home for many migratory birds and species include the
darter, little cormorant, night heron, golden
backed woodpecker, white
breasted water hen and many
more wonderful birds.
Arri ve and check in at the back water resort . After lunch you visit the bird sanctuary with a local naturalist and if possible do your wildlife viewing by boat.

DAY 05 TO ALLEPPEY (BACKWATERS)
After breakfast you make a s
hort trip to the ferry point where you board your houseboat.
The entire state of Kerala is blessed with plenty of rivers and the resources of many are still untapped. The waterways of Kerala play a major role in the economy of the state as they link remo te villages and islands with the mainland. It is an incredibly different experience to cruise in the backwaters in country boats, absorbing the beauty of Kerala's villages.
Houseboats, also known as kettuvallam or rice boats, are today one of the
major tourist attractions in
Kerala, but these boats were used to carry rice bags in their earlier days. These houseboats are uniquely
designed using local materials like bamboo poles, coconut fiber ropes, bamboo mats, carpets etc. and are a
fabulous way t
o enjoy exploring the fascinating beauties of backwaters. The languid grace and quaint
design adding another dimension to your cruise in the shimmering blue waters.
Your boat has a private balcony with comfortable chairs (perfect for that G&T while the sun goes down!). The rooms are fully furnished with attached bathrooms.
